She said YES!

This was a photo shoot for Rinky and Alfred to announce their happy engagement.Normally after a shoot, I would go through the pictures, edit them, post them and there would be a feeling of…hmm these are my pictures and they are lacking in some way. This was the first time after editing them and posting them, I asked myself —are these really my photos…? I’m really excited to shoot the actual engagement pictures for them. Congratulation to you guys again!

First Shoot of 2013!

My friend and I planned a to shoot his car at an abandoned mall strip but it turned out it was gated all the way around. We tried for a couple of shots in front of the mall as the sun was setting. It was a little disappointing not being able to have the background I imagined. On top of that, I really wanted to put my 35mm 1.4 to good use (my latest snag). So as we were going back to my friend’s house, which just so happens to be next to a very nice park, I pulled out my 35mm to snap a couple of final shots of Hoa. The sun was setting quickly at this point and the night air was very nippy. I was happy with these final shots . Everything added to “cool” feel of the photo. Hoa’s outfit happened to match perfectly although it was not planned. As expected, the sharpness and speed of the 35mm is impeccable the focal length is just what I was looking for.

My Dream Lens

When I started taking pictures 2 years ago, the lens I’ve strive to get my hands on was the Canon 70-200mm F2.8 IS.It was never really an option for me because it was always out of my price range. I started saving for a lens, it wasn’t the 70-200, I just always hoped I would be able to save enough and with luck I found a good deal. Today I hold the 70-200 in my hands, still with disbelief, at the sheer magnitude of how great it is. Although once a hobby, I feel photography has given a new perspective on life and so with each new lens I attain, I gain a new perspective. I’m so excited to take pictures with this magnificent lens!

Anonymous said: what's your usual set up of equipment when you take pictures.

I shoot with a Canon 5d mark II and my main lens would be the sigma 85mm 1.4.

Autumn colors create the perfect backdrop for photos. I recently came across a photo contest for fall colors and this provided the perfect opportunity for a shoot. Tina was my model for the day, and she dressed up in bright colors just like the season itself.
This shoot particularly was difficult because the spot I chose had limited lighting. I tried my best to capture all the essence of fall and this turned out to be the one photo I was happy with.

I recently purchased a helios 44m and wanted to test it out so of course I asked Hoa to be my test subject. We drove to the outskirts of Stockton and found an orchard to shoot. As always I love trying out sun flare shot so we got a couple in. To conclude, I am really pleased with this lens and the effect it produces. It will become a useful part of my collection.
